These allow you to improve the stats of chosen players beyond those seen on their original cards. Perhaps more significantly, in the days following the Producer Showcase, it was revealed that women’s footballers will be integrated into FC Ultimate Team for the first time.Īnother potential game-changer in Ultimate Team will be the concept of Evolutions. She revealed that various new women’s football leagues, including those in Spain and Germany, have been added to FC 24, along with the Women’s Champions League. In the Amsterdam event’s keynote, EA Sports wheeled out Alex Scott, footballer turned presenter, and emphasised an increase in the presence of women’s football in the game. The new main menu certainly looks clean and uncluttered – no mean feat for a game which contains so many different modes. So, those obsessed with FC Ultimate Team (which FIFA Ultimate Team now becomes) and those who tend to head straight for Manager Career are both catered for. For example, EA has taken the opportunity to redesign its main menu, adding a level of user-customisability which should play well with those gamers who often focus on wildly different aspects of its gameplay. Technology aside, FC 24 contains a very long list of new features. This is coupled with another leap forward in the fine modelling of players’ physiques, so the game should have no trouble setting new standards for on-pitch realism in a football game. Play Styles should have a considerable effect on FC 24’s gameplay experience, and we’ll take a deeper dive into it later.įinally, EA Sports has endowed FC 24 with a new, upgraded version of the Frostbite engine that powers its visuals which, for the first time, include cloth that moves realistically. This will feed into another new pillar of FC 24: Play Styles, for which EA Sports has partnered with Opta, the organisation which for decades has been generating a welter of real-time statistical data for all the players participating in football across the world. For years, FIFA games have attempted to ape the individual styles of at least the world’s top players, and now FC 24 has a chance to crack that properly. This allows EA to generate motion-captured animations of footballers performing signature moves merely using TV footage of them on the pitch, rather than forcing them to try to recreate those actions wearing motion-capture suits in specially equipped studios.ĮA calls this technology Hypermotion V and it also allows the company to capture the individual running styles of players with uncanny precision. FC 24 is due to be released on September 29 and will be the first football game (and as far as we can tell, the first game, full stop) to make use of volumetric motion capture.
